It's that time of year when school is out and I'm ready to play! After being trapped state-side all last summer, I am certainly making up for it this year. I will be in China and Hong Kong for about 6.5 weeks from July 8th - August 23rd. China is ahead of us by 12 hours.
Here is my itinerary:
July 7th depart from Megan's house in Chesterfield, VA and ride up to NJ.
July 8th depart from Newark, NJ
July 9th arrive in Shanghai, China
July 11th depart Shanghai and arrive in Tangkou (about a 5 hour trip). It is here where we will spend most of our time. Our group is called Teaching English Through Play (TETP).
- We plan on volunteering 5 days a week from 9am-12pm.
- From 12-4 is lunch and decompression time.
- From 4-6 is Chinese culture time! This means we'll shop for food, play mahjong, learn Chinese calligraphy, learn Chinese, take a cooking class, play Chinese games, etc.
- From 6-7 is dinner time.
- From 7-9 we will go into town to shop, play pool, see a movie, or do whatever we can find.
August 3rd we pack up and say our goodbyes.
August 4th we head back to Shanghai.
August 6th the TETP group flies back to the states, but this day I fly to Hong Kong! I'm staying in a hostel and exploring the city for a few days.
August 10th I fly back to Shanghai and Michael's flight lands there 20 minutes after me! Yay!
August 10-13 we will be in Shanghai.
August 14-18 we'll be in Xi'an.
August 18-23 we'll be in Beijing.
I fly home from Beijing on the 23rd.
Michael will take an overnight train back to Shanghai and fly home on the 24th, arriving on the 25th.
I start teacher workdays on August 25th. I will miss my first two days.
Michael starts class August 25th, but he will be flying home then. He will start on the 26th.
We're both missing some school, but when in China you have to see all the things!
I have been told our place in Tangkou has limited internet access, but I will do my best to post updates and pictures along the way! Thanks for keeping up with me!
